Welcome

Welcome

The changing season has brought with it some spectacular autumn colours in Tasmania. Quamby Estate is home to many grand old English trees and right now they are putting on a show of colours that is a photographers dream. The newly restored guest rooms in the Homestead offer luxurious accommodation with warm fires and a delicious Tassie menu.  This is a perfect time to plan that indulgent winter escape.

Mother Nature is also putting on quite a show in South Australia at the moment, as water continues to flow into Lake Eyre. We are operating scenic flights from Wilpena Pound Resort over Lake Eyre and the reports back from our pilots and guests have been extraordinary. This rare phenomenon is a must see.

Our walking season in Tasmania has now ended. It’s been a good year with some truly inspiring feedback from our guests. A common theme is that people return feeling refreshed and rejuvenated despite the physical effort in taking the walk. It seems that in these times of economic crisis and global uncertainty that an escape from the city and total immersion in the wilderness can be a truly regenerating experience. Tourism Tasmania has used the line “souls repaired while walking” in their advertising. Perhaps that’s true?

In preparation for next season, which starts 1 October, we have a special early bird offer for anyone who books before 30 June. Read about this and all the latest news from Anthology below.

Best wishes,

Grant Hunt

Air Wilpena offers scenic flights over Lake Eyre

Air Wilpena offers scenic flights over Lake Eyre

Air Wilpena is giving people the opportunity to view one of nature’s rare moments from the best vantage point – 1,000 feet in the air - as Lake Eyre fills with water.

Air Wilpena has just celebrated its 50th anniversary and prides itself on in-depth local knowledge of flora, fauna, geography and history providing visitors with an opportunity to immerse themselves in one of Australia’s iconic locations.  The airline is offering three different experiences, designed by the pilots to take advantage of this extraordinarily rare natural phenomenon.

Wilpena Pound Flights

Located approximately 700kms north of Adelaide, Lake Eyre - the world’s largest salt lake - has only filled to the brim with water three times in the last 160 years although periodic smaller fills have been recorded – the last one in 2000 when it filled to half way.  Scientists can’t predict how full it will get this year but the floodwaters coming down the Georgina and Diamantina rivers are already bringing with them new fish life and as a result a teeming bird population of pelicans, silver gulls and gull-billed terns which form up to 2000km away.

Air Wilpena’s “Flood Flights” include views of Lake Eyre and the surrounding spectacular outback expanses of South Australia.  They vary in length and route to cater for a range of visitors.
