Winter Indulgence at Quamby Estate |
|
Embrace the romance of days gone by without compromising today’s modern comforts. As winter approaches we are giving travellers the opportunity to chill out and enjoy some warm hospitality as the weather gets cooler. From 1 June to 30 September, 2009 guests can enjoy a two-night stay at the beautiful Quamby heritage-listed homestead that has recently been restored to a boutique luxury lodge. The package also includes dinner and breakfast daily, a bottle of Tasmanian sparkling wine on arrival, a one hour massage and 18 holes of golf on the Estate’s private golf course. The package is offered at $450 per person twin share in a Superior room or $590 per person twin share in a Deluxe room. Built in the 1830s, Quamby is a rare example of Anglo Indian architecture and still retains many of the original features including marble fireplaces, soaring ceilings and decorative cornices and balustrades along with the timber shutters designed to keep out the bushrangers. Various heritage listed outbuildings include the original manager’s residence and office c1852, a blacksmith’s workshop, stables, granary and shearing shed all of which make up the accommodation available to Quamby’s guests. The homestead also holds great historic significance. It was the home of Sir Richard Dry, the state’s first Tasmanian born Premier, held in high regard by colleagues and the English royal family. As such it has been referred to as Tasmania’s “Parliament House of the North.” Quamby is set on 64 hectares of picturesque countryside consisting of rolling hills, lakes and ancient trees. Entry to the estate is along a 1.6km drive lined with magnificent hawthorn, poplar and elm trees. Gaps between the trees show glimpses of the Ben Lomand Ranges and the beautifully groomed golf course
