Wildman: A resort on the move |
The development of Wildman Wilderness Lodge is well underway and proceeding to schedule. In what is probably the greatest example of recycling in Australian tourism, the core buildings travelled 2800km from outback Queensland via 18 triple road trains to a warehouse in Darwin, where they sat until May 2010 when work commenced on site. The cabin verandas and awnings were removed and the cabin structures lifted onto the back of semi trailers. The central bar and restaurant facility was dismantled piece by piece, and two staff accommodation units were also packed up and transported to the Wildman location. When it is completed, Wildman Wilderness Lodge will offer two styles of accommodation - there will be ten air conditioned cabins (known as Habitats) and fifteen spacious fan-cooled safari tents, five of which will be configured for families. Stylish interiors will be found throughout with natural colours providing a sense of place, in harmony with the surrounding wetlands. Although the Resort is still a construction zone the cabin structures are now in place, with landscaping and interior renovations scheduled to commence shortly. The safari tents will be erected following the completion of the Habitats and the Lodge. |

2011 season rates and itineraries |
Wildman Wilderness Lodge is now open for bookings, with a nightly dinner, bed and breakfast rate of $285.00 per person in a Habitat, and $215 per person in a safari tent. Additionally, there are two core itineraries that include touring experiences in and around the Mary River Wetlands, and Kakadu National Park. A 2 night Escape includes the Home Billabong tour. The dawn cruise will showcase a sunrise over the floodplain, with guests invited to walk the short distance to the Resort billabong and experience the tranquility of this vast and imposing environment as a day begins. The experience will be repeated at the end of each day, with a later afternoon cruise to enjoy the sunset whilst on the water. The 3 night Kakadu Adventure provides an insight into life on the Mary River - an area renowned for having the largest population of salt water crocodiles in the world - with a 3 hour Mary River Rockhole experience. Apart from croc spotting, guests will be able to view the variety of wetland bird species and take in the fantastic views across the vast Mary River river system. As the name suggests, the Kakadu Adventure will also include the opportunity for touring through Kakadu National Park, with a variety of opportunities to view the best that Kakadu has to offer, depending on seasonality and access. We will travel the old Jim Jim Road, visiting Nourlangie Rock to experience the oldest living culture on earth and to view the amazing Arnhem Land escarpment. Opportunities to visit Anbangbang billabong and Barramundi Gorge, and optional swimming in one of the Territories beautiful waterfall-fed swimming holes are other options for the Kakadu adventure. |
