A Tale from... Wildman Wilderness Lodge - 14 Oct 2012

This was our first trip to the NT and we wanted to go bush and experience the National Parks of the area. Wildman Wilderness Lodge delivered and surpassed our expectations on how you should enjoy this region, while at the same time enjoying a bit of luxury and feeling pampered. Its location is perfect for the Mary River Park and also for the one day tour to Kakadu Park which we opted for and thoroughly enjoyed and learned heaps about the area. The safari "tents" are such a great concept as you feel like you are camping out in the savannah surrounded by bush (and wallabies and birdlife) but have the added bonus of electricity, a comfy queen bed with excellent linen and an ensuite bathroom with all the extras provided. All furniture and fixtures are of excellent quality and the daily housekeeping by the young, conscientious, hardworking staff was extremely thorough. The whole property is well maintained and the pool was bliss for cooling down and relaxing by with views of the sunset from this area and from our safari tent. Extremely peaceful and quite magical at sunset. The staff should all be complimented for their high standard of service from the welcome briefing by Jodie and her offsider young chap (Kiwi), to the (two Kiwi)chefs who presented such beautiful meals at breakfast and 3 course dinners each night (loved the different meats and the sorbets) of our 4 night stay, the waiting staff (two Irish twins and another wonderful young lady who gave us accommodation details of the Kimberly region), to the housekeeping staff. The management have chosen their staff extremely carefully. It was great chatting to them all each day. Tours we would recommend are the Home Billabong cruise, the Mary River cruise (abundant birdlife), the quad bike tour to Leichhardt Point (yet more birdlife), the cultural tour of the property by Darryl (our superb knowledgeable local chap) and the must do 1 day Kakadu Park trip. You could also wander down to the Home billabong and just stand and feast your eyes on the amazing birdlife. Watch out for the local dominant male croc who patrols around on this billabong, gliding up and down the river usurping any potential male threats. We had a brilliant time at Wildman and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants a real adventure but without having to slum it! Thank you for the great time we had here in the run up to to Wet.

Absolutely amazing, we could not fault Wildmans. The place, the people, the service, the food, everything about Wildmans was terrific! A great long weekend to take time to relax and enjoy the beautiful Northern Territory!

Dawn over Wildmans

I had one great night in the tent, yes it was hot but what do you expect your in a tent in the tropics. They tell you what you are going to get, on the website if you want aircon, book a cabins.

I was treated superbly from the moment I arrived to the time I left. All the stall where brilliant, the food was top notch.

I can recomend the Billabong tour it was great.

For me one of highlight, memories to be remembered and savoured. Like a great bottle of wine

A Tale from... Wildman Wilderness Lodge - 12 Oct 2012

As part of a management team in a hospitality organization in Darwin, I was very keen to see what everyone had been talking about.......Wildman Wilderness Lodge. My husband & I plus 2 friends went for a weekend to rest & relax in the Habitats and one word to describe the experience was WOW!! We all thoroughly enjoyed the accommodation, didn't want for anything and it was very comfortable. The tours were well organized and during the time we visited, there was a special for 3 tours for the price of one. Who could ask for more!!! The pool was extremely relaxing & well attended by staff. All the staff without exception were friendly, attentive & well informed about the surrounding & attractions. The highlight of the weekend was the food.......to find the quality of food & wine so far from nowhere was unbelievable & even the chef chatted to us and of course was very friendly. Could I fault it.....no, not 1 thing. Thank you for a very pleasant weekend. We will continue to tell everyone to visit.

Wildman Wilderness Lodge Billabong

Wow - what a great place to get away from it all and appreciate the wild outdoors. They have all the modcons. The Safari tent was huge and really comfortable. We had our 12 yr old son with us and we were all made to feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The staff were wonderful and the food was delicious. The billabong was full of wildlife and so pretty in the late afternoon. We saw a big crocodile, a dingo and loads of birds. The rainforest nearby was very special with a huge collection of orchids of a type you seldom see. Thank you for giving us a wonderful experience.

A Tale from... Wildman Wilderness Lodge - 01 Oct 2012

We stayed here in early October and found it to be a pleasant stay only marred somewhat by the heat of the Safari tents during the middle of the day - they don't handle heat-humidity as well as we'd expected. However, the location is great as a staging point for the many activities and scenery close by. The tents are spacious, well-configured, and what a joy to live without television for a brief time at least. The lodge itself is of a very high standard in fitout-finishings and very comfortable for families, with a pool to cool off in, Quad bikes, Billabong tours etc. The food was of high quality and plentiful. The greatest asset we found were the staff. Nothing was too much for them and they were very welcoming, interested in us, and looked like they wanted to be there. They organised an airboat tour on a neighbouring property - the highlight of our short stay - and were thoroughly professional in all respects. If we returned we'd stay in Habitats and not tents, depending on the season.

A Tale from... Wilpena Pound Resort - 21 Sep 2012

My mobile charger hid itself behind the jug and we missed it packing up. I got a call from the resort when I had driven for just 5 minutes to say I had left my charger in the room and I was able to turn around and get it. How efficient is that!

An amazing experience! I'm not surprised that couples are now booking the lodge for their wedding. Like the rest of us, it's a place that will live in their minds forever. Such luxury in the outback wilderness is almost unbelievable.

I would like to say thanks to all the staff at Wildman Wilderness Lodge for their friendliness and the great team work. I t was just so wonderful to see them work so easily with each other and with us. Thanks to the chef for taking the time to make sure I was able to have a wonderful menu despite my food allergies. I appreciate the fact he took the time to find out information prior to my arrival. The place was sensational. Thank you so very very much

Our travel team

It was our three-days tour arranged for the visit of the exotic Flinders Ranges. I had often heard of people talking of this place but had never got an ample time to reach up to. We spent three days (two nights from 7th to 9th April) in Flinders Ranges area and the experience I have made in particular with my friends is a lifelong and of an inexplicable brilliance. Two cars accommodating eight persons, we travelled up to Warren George in the first day and stayed that night there. Next day we reached to the Long Awaited place-The Wilpena Pound. The mountains and hills of the area giving it a spectacular view had already subdued and stolen our hearts, driving around and experiencing the paid Camping near the Resort on the second night gave us a timeless memory. It was after almost five years in count I saw for the first time the lit-fire from a very close quarter here in Australia. Stepping on the heart of the place that is geographically and naturally acclaimed and known by far and the place of greatest interests for internal and international tourists due it being one of the oldest remaining historical pasts of the Earth, has encouraged us travel more and discover even more of South Australia and as a whole, the whole of Australian main lands, its beauty, its nature, people, flora and fauna. The rocks, the caves, the special kind of plants which I had never seen in my life, I guess, are what will make the memory of this place never let go off my mind. I enjoyed and painted every bit of this experience in my memory supplementing to the numbers of photos that my mini-DSLR could do. It was for the first time in my life I drove the longest distance and spent nights out with my best friends. I am indebted to my friends-Mohan, Revika, Devika, Lal Darshan, Jyotshna, Ganga and Kala for this joint tour and making me a part. We highly recommend people to have the experience of this great place once!!
Our thanks are especially to the staff at the Wilpena Pound Resort and Camping management. The information you provided helped us a lot in discovering that place. Blest this great country and its people be.

Altitude Without Engines

Four girls in a light plane - relieved to arrive and enjoy the tranquility and hospitality.

There is a podcast about the journey here : http://www.planecrazydownunder.com/2011/10/20/pcdu-episode-76-air-wilpena/

"It was a delight to walk below the dappled canopy of the sugar gums with the hum of the native bees and the glimpse of a magnificent eagle as it circled above looking for prey. We four eagles were glad to have landed and be stretching our legs though. On the hike to the lookout, the rich red escarpment of the Pound is visible in glimpses, and as we ambled along, the only sound to perforate this idyllic place was the voice of a geographically frustrated L1, “Are we in the bloody Pound yet?” (It’s hard to tell when you’re walking). I was just focused on my pounding heart while being overtaken by small children, and geriatrics in heavy jumpers. The half hour walk was worth every wheeze, and the panoramic Pound view from the top superb. We sat on the rocks for a couple of hours enjoying lunch and the serenity of altitude without engines."

All I can say is wow. My grandfather and I had been planning this trip for a couple of months and it was magnificent. The Camp grounds were great and the Kangaroos were even better.

We did the Hills homestead hike and the Wangara lookout hike, we saw some amazing wildlife and had a great time. My only regret is only doing the short hike but next time I plan on doing many.

Mount Ohlssen Bagge

Our Stay at Wilpena was AMAZING! All the staff are so friendly and went out of their way to help us organise our 4WD tour and flights before we got there. We flew over Lake Eyre which is something that is a must to see. My husband was having difficulty walking and the staff did not have an issue moving us to a room with disabled facilities and bringing our coffee's to the table outside the shop looking at the beautiful bush land. I was still able to do some bushwalks in the area and would reccoment Mount Ohlssen which has brilliant views from the top. Its a beautiful time of year to visit Wilpena while spring is bringing out all the colour. Overall service and facilities were 10/10 and we will be back again like many times before. Thanks again to the team at Wilpena for making our stay so carefree and enjoyable. Elizabeth Tennings, GC, QLD

We had a WONDERFUL time at Wilpena Pound Resort.
Emily was incredibly helpful, she had everything arranged for us and scheduled our tours so they were spread out across the time we had. It’s impossible to say what we loved the most. The accommodation is great for families being able to self cater or dine in the restaurant is a bonus. The food was very good in the restaurant, turns out the cook had previously worked at Wrotham Park Lodge, we stayed there last year. The location is superb. We loved being able to walk from our room up into the pound and did it every day. The day we went for a longer walk up to the lookouts and across the pound we caught the little bus up to the top of the track, saving our energy for the climb up to the top of the lookout. Wow! What a view! The wildlife - lizards and a taipan, we came across on the way won over my 11 year old daughter as well!
We did the tour around Arkaba station in the landcruiser with Ian, just the 5 of us. We enjoyed it so much we went back and booked for their afternoon tour as well. The kids were fascinated by the geology of the area and had to visit the museum in Adelaide when we went back there to see their new displays on the fossils of the Flinders.
We loved flying over the pound, we did that at the end and it put everything we had already seen into perspective, kids had never been in a small plane and it was a gorgeous clear morning (as they all were) so they are hooked!
On the way back to Adelaide we all decided we needed to do another “road trip” and come back again driving all the way and including Kangaroo Island. We may do it at Christmas or wait until Easter next year.
We have been busily telling everyone they have to visit Wilpena. SA has always been somewhere we have driven through to get to somewhere else…but now we are converts.
